Airport Twente (yes or no?)
| In 2003 the Dutch Ministry of Defense shut down a military air base in the eastern region of the Netherlands. Infrastructure that came available were a 3.2 km runway infrastructure and an air traffic control tower. T-Xchange in collaborance with Grontmij Netherlands b.v. was invited to involve all 30 social stakeholder parties in a design process to design a future spatial development plan. In eight months the group of stakeholders designed a solution everyone could agree on using the TX Effect Based Solution process. The serious game T-Xchange developed gave insight in (1) differing perspectives and interests of participating parties, (2) encouraged people to think out of the box without losing sight of reality, because (3) effects of design options on social, financial and environmental criteria were interactively visible. Serious gaming was experienced as a unique way of creating a basis on which all stakeholders could agree. The end result is presented in an official governmental report to the key – decision makers in June 2008. |
